Resource: Nonprofit Organization Revenue Origin Matrix

Note: This is a two part assignment.

Complete the Nonprofit Organization Revenue Origin Matrix located on the student website.

Evaluate the pros and cons associated with the different sources of revenue (backed up with evidence from the readings appropriately cited) available to a nonprofit organization using your completed matrix.

Short Answers:

  • How has the way in which nonprofit organizations acquire funding changed over recent years? Use recent academic readings (last 5 years) or professional sources such as The Foundation Center or the Giving US report, among others.
  • What implications do you see this having on the organization you have analyzed above? Consider who is giving to organizations and the criteria that must be met to obtain funding.

Please see the Grading Rubric.

Format the Short Answers portion of the paper consistent with APA guidelines.  The matrix must include appropriate citations. The matrix may be uploaded as a separate document or pasted into the paper.

Please use the week’s readings–appropriately cited–to support your points.  Academic resources found through the UoP library may be utilized as well as professional sources such as The Foundation Center.

A few things I have seen in the past and want to remind you about:

1-Remember to post the actual matrix (in table form). You can paste this in the body of the paper. Be sure to explain the matrix as well in text form. To get support to answer the matrix, use the readings. Also–every category of funding has pros and cons. It’s not possible to say there are no downsides to government funding, private donations, etc.  Remember to use proper citations in the matrix as well. Paraphrase and use quotes if necessary. Add citations in parentheses at the end of the sentence.

2-Remember to post the short answer questions as well.

3-Remember to use APA format (title page, reference page, double spacing, etc.). Remember the introduction and conclusion.

4-Remember–social enterprise is not “having an event.” See the readings for support.

5-One of the question asks:

How has the way in which nonprofit organizations acquire funding changed over recent years? Use recent academic readings (last 5 years) or professional sources such as The Foundation Center.

Remember to answer how this has changed recently (last five years), not just identify various sources from which organizations can seek funding. Back up any assertions with a citation from an academic or professional source such as the Chronicle of Philanthropy, the text readings, or an article from the University of Phoenix library. Avoid general, editable articles such as Wikipedia and ehow.com.

6-The other question asks, “What implications do you see this having on the organization you have analyzed above? “

Remember to relate these changes in recent years to the actual organization you picked. Perhaps the way nonprofits have acquired funding will/won’t work for the organization because of their structure, their current sources of funding, their clientele, etc. Please post any specific questions about the organization you’re analyzing in the individual forum.

7-Plagiarism (whether not citing sources or using direct phrases without quotes) will result in a deduction and possible reporting to Academic Affairs. Avoid over-quoting. Use your own words and cite the source.
