Goal

Your task is to collect, organize and analyze data on the Top 50 Richest Americans.

Role

Your job is to collect evidence to support your case that an entertainer is the best route to make millions of dollars.

Audience 

You need to convince your parents why a biology major is not the best decision.

Situation

Your parents want you to attend an elite college next fall and major in biology. They hope you will then pursue a medical degree. You, however, have dreams about being a professional athlete.  You decide you will research the Top 50 Richest Americans and create a detailed report to present to your parents. 

Product, Performance, and Purpose

1.  You will go to the website below and collect your data on the top 50 richest Americans. (You can copy the first 50 into an Excel Spreadsheet. You need all columns.)

2.  You will create a bar graph representing the sectors. You should group similar categories together. For instance, Dell, Microsoft and Ebay could be grouped in a technologies category.

3. You will create a histogram based on the ages of the 50 richest Americans. 

4. You will create a histogram based on the net worth of the 50 richest Americans.

5.  You will write a report that does the following:

a.  Analyzes EACH histogram (discusses shape, center, spread and outliers)                    

b.  Gives measure of center and spread for the ages and net worth data.             

c. Explains why each measure of center and spread was chosen.                    

d. Explains overall understanding of the data.             

e. Discusses best fields to get into, ages to expect making millions and reality of being professional athlete.

Standards and Criteria

Print out the rubric provided to assist you with your project.
Either create your bar graph and histograms on a poster and take pictures and upload images to file attachment area or create a PowerPoint to include all information.
Attach your report to the local file attachment area, if uploading pictures.
