Post your initial response to one of the scenarios below.

Male & Female Reproductive System

Using the University Online Library, the Internet and your textbook, research the conditions affecting the male and female reproductive systems.

Scenario 1:

Mrs. Smith is a 50 year old Caucasian woman who has 4 children ages 17, 15, 13, and 10. She was 33 with the birth of her first child. Her BMI is 25. She has no personal or family history of breast cancer. She lives with her husband in a suburban community. She is an elementary school teacher who is working part-time as a substitute so she can be home with her children. She has been healthy with no previous medical history. One year ago she noted a small palpable lump in her right breast about the size of an almond. Because she has been healthy she assumed it was nothing and ignored it. Over the last month she has noted that this lump has been increasing in size. Her health insurance would be expiring in the next month so she reluctantly decided to have a mammogram. She called for an appointment and they were unable to see her for another 2 months.

After waiting 2 months, her mammogram confirmed a 5 cm mass. She then had an ultrasound guided biopsy. This biopsy confirmed the presence of cancer cells. An additional biopsy confirmed the presence of cancer cells in 3 of her lymph nodes most proximal to the tumor.

• What are the primary concerns for the patient right now? Why?
• What are some of the expected medical surgical interventions?
• What further assessment will be needed?
• What pharmaceutical drugs are approved treatments for breast cancer patients?
Scenario 2:

Mr. B is a 77 year old African American man who complains of difficulty urinating.

• What could be the underlying cause of these symptoms?
• What are his risk factors?
• What laboratory tests would be needed to confirm possible differential diagnoses?
• What interventions would you expect?

interview experience

Report Issue
This assignment requires you to interview one person and requires an analysis of your interview experience.

Part I: Interview

Select a patient, a family member, or a friend to interview. Be sure to focus on the interviewee’s experience as a patient, regardless of whom you choose to interview.

Review The Joint Commission resource found in topic materials, which provides some guidelines for creating spiritual assessment tools for evaluating the spiritual needs of patients. Using this resource and any other guidelines/examples that you can find, create your own tool for assessing the spiritual needs of patients.

Your spiritual needs assessment survey must include a minimum of five questions that can be answered during the interview. During the interview, document the interviewee’s responses.

The transcript should include the questions asked and the answers provided. Be sure to record the responses during the interview by taking detailed notes. Omit specific names and other personal information through which the interviewee can be determined.

Part II: Analysis

Write a 500-750 word analysis of your interview experience. Be sure to exclude specific names and other personal information from the interview. Instead, provide demographics such as sex, age, ethnicity, and religion. Include the following in your response:

What went well?
Were there any barriers or challenges that inhibited your ability to complete the assessment tool? How would you address these in the future or change your assessment to better address these challenges?
How can this tool assist you in providing appropriate interventions to meet the needs of your patient?
Did you discover that illness and stress amplified the spiritual concern and needs of your interviewee? Explain your answer with examples.
Submit both the transcript of the interview and the analysis of your results. This should be submitted as one document. The interview transcript does not figure into the word count.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Continuing Education

Assignment: Both parts below into one APA paper

Part 1: Continuing Education (Part 1 should be at least 750 words and include 2 outside references plus the textbook.)

Continuing education units are required for renewal of license (in some states) and for recertification. Continuing education opens doors to job opportunities. Answer the questions:

Why is advancing your degree and knowledge important for nursing as a profession? Explain and give several reasons.
How would you respond to a nurse that states: “I only want to live and work in a state that does not require continue education credits and I never want to advance my degree?” Explain in detail what you would say and why.
Part 2: Future of Nursing (Part 2 should be at least 1000 words and include 2 outside references and the textbook.)

Review the author’s vision in the textbook (Chapter 25), of the future of nursing and complete your own research to include the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report.

Do you agree with the authors or do you have a different vision of nursing? Explain and provide examples as to why you do agree or do not agree.

person-and family-centered care

Report Issue
Scenario

As you recall, number two on the National Quality Strategy Priorities is person-and family-centered care. Prior to the 1980s, family and visitors were restricted to a few hours at a time and absolutely prohibited to stay overnight. When family arrived on discharge day, they were given minimal instructions on the care of invasive treatments such as bladder irrigation and told to return only if there were problems. As a result, patients did return with raging infections, wound dehiscence, and irreparable complications.

Fortunately, with the advent of patient-and family-centered care, readmissions have been reduced because of adequate training and participation of caregivers.

Reflect upon what you have learned about changing the concept from families as “visitors” to families as partners. Identify which policy you would prefer to see in your facility as a patient and as a healthcare leader. Use the Institute for Family- and Patient-Centered Care’s website to view sample policies.

1. Choose the policy you would like to see implemented as a family member and as a patient advocate.

a. Be specific and use the policy content to support your opinion.

b. What factors make this policy most attractive to you as an advocate?

1. Choose the policy you would like to see implemented as a future healthcare leader.

a. Again, be specific and use the policy content to support your opinion.

b. What factors make this policy most attractive to you as a future healthcare leader?

Antibiotic overuse

Report Issue
This is for a discussion post

Please provided at least two references in APA format

Antibiotic overuse is another issue that is of concern in our health care system. Improper outpatient use leads to an increase in antibiotic resistance. Reasons for overuse are things like: the patient expects to get an antibiotic when they visit a provider; patient satisfaction scores, diagnostic uncertainty, and of course, time pressures on the providers. So, an antibiotic is prescribed “just in case.”

For this week’s discussion, find one peer reviewed journal article discussing antibiotic overuse in the healthcare system. Address all questions below in your initial response. You still must meet the minimum number of required references per the discussion rubric. The peer reviewed journal article stated above just has to be ONE of your references (and the main reference) for the initial posting.
1. Summarize the main points of the article for your peers.

2. Provide the link to the article for your peers.

3. Relate the findings of the article to your area of nursing practice. Could the recommendations in the article be applied to your area of nursing practice? Why or why not?

4. What is your role as the nurse in the dilemma of antibiotic overuse? How can you make a difference?
