Small Math/Bible Discussion

In this past unit you learned about how trigonometric functions are always the same for a given angle, regardless of the size of the triangle which forms it. This concept of things being the same and yet different—is very prevalent in the gospels where we see Jesus doing the same thing and yet doing it in a new and different situation. The power of Jesus’ character doesn’t change, but how he embodies his characteristics is almost never the same.

Discussion: Explain trigonometric functions. Then explain how trigonometric functions can be a metaphor for how Jesus is the same and yet also different in these two different scriptural examples: Mark 4:35-41 and Matthew 14:13-21. (Hint: be sure to explain what part symbolizes the “angles” (the part that always stays the same) and which part represents the “size” (the circumstantial part that varies).

Answer in a paragraph.
