For this assignment, you will submit two letters. One letter will be written to a Texas state senator or state representative to advocate for a professional issue that is relevant to your state of practice. The second letter will be written to a Texas member of the U.S. Congress (Texas U.S. senator or Texas U.S. House of Representatives member). To locate Texas U.S. senators, U.S. representatives, and Texas state legislators, use these links:
Using the information from the prior assignment – APRN Political Action State Initiatives on the issues identified by your state professional organization advocacy team, write a letter to one of your members of the U.S. Congress (U.S. Senate or U.S. House of Representatives) and a letter to one of Texas state legislators.
In these letters, identify:
- The issue
- Why it is an issue
- How it affects patient care and outcomes
- How it restricts practice
- A suggestion for removing such barriers
