The nursing specialty within my program is based on psychiatry and mental health. Psychiatric nurse practitioners can analyze psychological diseases/disorders and recommend drugs, however, they likewise give mental and social wellbeing treatment. This incorporates guiding patients experiencing stress, uneasiness, self-destructive contemplations, and different mental issues.

I will learn to evaluate, analyze, plan, actualize, and assess medicinal service procedures that lessen disparities by supporting patients for access to nursing care. I will also learn to incorporate mental health frameworks in the nursing practice that will lead to high-quality medicinal services, enhancement of the nursing care, and social change. The difficulties I experienced when making my choice was finding schools that included this program and the place of employment I can work at once graduating. I say this because I have worked in many areas as a nurse and I am happy with my job now. I know the process of adjustment can be difficult, but I hope that wherever I work, I feel comfortable and at ease.

The factors that drove my decision was the high rate of job satisfaction, the high demand for nurses in this specialty, and ultimately, my passion for mental health. One professional organization affiliated with my chosen specialty is the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) was established in 1986. In the following years, APNA has become a major association focused on the practice of mental-psychological health advancement, counteraction of emotional well-being issues, and the consideration and treatment of people with mental diseases. There are different types of memberships: regular, affiliate, international, retired, and student. For student memberships, the dues are discounted to $25 and individuals are expected to be a full-time student within the nursing program. Steps to be a member include providing proof of student status, filling out the online application, and waiting about two weeks for processing. Members will be awarded a welcome letter and membership card.
