MATH 243 University of Oregon Gallup Poll Relation to The Class Questions

I’ve attached a PDF of the rubric and essay guidelines/overview.

Must be at least 2 pages. No cover sheet or citations required so 2 full pages of writing.

The main question that must be addressed is: How does the Gallup poll relate to our class?

The following points/ appropriate following answers must be included in the essay:

-Introduce the scenario- what was asked, what data was collected?

-How do the sampling techniques compare?

-What population does each sample represent?

-Why does it matter what population each sample represents? What is important about similarities and differences between populations- how does this help us understand the relationship between the polls?

-Gallup says that their poll has a 3% margin of error. What level of confidence do you think the Gallup poll used? What would be an appropriate level of confidence for our poll?

-Construct a confidence interval for both polls.

-Does it matter whether or not the confidence intervals overlap? Why or why not?

-Write a conclusion to sum up what you’ve learned about sampling and inference.
