If you are not familiar with blogs, the information below may help you complete this assignment. To learn the basics about blogging, read What is a Blog? – The Definition of Blog, Blogging, and Blogger, obtained from First Site Guide.

When blogs began in 1994, they were more of a personal diary to be shared online. This online journal could be used to talk about daily life or share things you were doing. However, people began to see blogs as an opportunity to communicate information in a new way.

What is a Blog?

Definition of blog

A blog (shortening of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational website displaying information in reverse chronological order, with latest posts appearing first. It is a platform where a writer or even a group of writers share their views on an individual subject.

What is the purpose of a blog?

There are many reasons for starting a personal blog, and only a handful of strong ones for business blogging. Blogging for business, projects, or anything else that might bring you money has a very straightforward purpose – to rank your website higher in Google SERPs, a.k.a. increasing your visibility.

As a business, you rely on consumers to keep buying your products and services. As a new business, you rely on blogging to help you get to these consumers and grab their attention. Without blogging, your website would remain invisible, whereas running a blog makes you searchable and competitive. In other words, the main purpose of a blog is to connect you to the relevant audience.

Another purpose for a blog is to boost your traffic and send quality leads to your website. Posting better, more frequent blogs increases the chances for your website to get discovered and visited by your target audience, making the blog an effective lead-generation tool. Adding a great call to action (CTA) converts your website traffic into high-quality leads.

A blog also allows you to showcase your authority and build a brand. Using your niche knowledge for creating informative and engaging posts builds trust with your audience. Great blogging makes your business look more credible, which is especially important if your brand is still young and fairly unknown. It ensures presence and authority at the same time.

Blog structure

The appearance of blogs changed over time, and nowadays blogs include different items. However, most blogs include some standard features and structure, including:

Header with the menu or navigation bar
Main content area with highlighted or latest blog posts
Sidebar with social profiles, favorite content, or call-to-action
Footer with relevant links like a disclaimer, privacy policy, contact page, etc.
**Homework Assignment
Write 5 short blog entries (at least one-half page each). In each entry highlight:

One specific topic/issue related to Module 1 that you would like to investigate further. Explain why.
Discuss your reactions to what have you learned so far concerning your specific topic/issue as it relates to human capital management. Cite at least one of your module sources.
Discuss what more you would like to learn concerning your topic/issue. Explain why.
Find one valid source (not listed in this module) from which you could learn more about your specific topic/issue. Look in the Trident Online Library for valid sources, such as peer-reviewed academic journals.
