Cancer Disease

Cancer is a disease which affects human beings.

It is a disease associated with abnormal growth of the body cells.

Cancerous cells invade the body and later spread to the other parts of the body.

Cancer disease can affect any person either man or a woman

Colorectal cancer

Kidney cancer

Causes of Cancer

Cancer is caused by many factors which are preventable and others unpreventable.

Preventable causes of cancer

Smoking of cigarettes

Excessive consumption of alcohol

Malnutrition

Excessive body weight

Lack of body exercise

Unpreventable Causes of Cancer

Cancer can be caused by other factors which cannot be prevented. For example;

Age

Many cases of cancer infections have been identified with old age

Genetic factors

Any change in the genetic code can influence cell division and multiplication.

The genes also can influence the production of proteins by the cells.

The proteins are known to carry instructions for many cell processes.

Cancer Symptoms

The symptoms of cancer vary according to the type of cancer disease.

These symptoms are;

Presence of blood I the urine

Hoarseness

Itching of skin

Indigestion and having difficulty in swallowing

Sudden weight loss or gain, having night sweats and fever.

Having persistent swollen glands

Treatment & prevention of cancer

Cancer can be treated using various methods depending on the type.

Chemotherapy-targeting rapidly dividing cells and killing them with the use of drugs

Hormone therapy- use of drugs to interfere with hormonal work

Precision medicine- cancer treatment using specific genetic content testing of the cancer patient

Radiotherapy- killing cancerous cells with the use of high-dose radiation.

Immuno-therapy- use of appropriate medication in boosting immunity to fight against cancerous cells.

Stem cell transplant- replacing affected cells with the ones which have been treated through Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy.

Surgery- removing affected cells or tumors by surgical method.
