Central Tendency and Variability

Central Tendency and Variability

  1. The data set you have opened contains three variables: SCHOOL (the school the students attended when they took the Psychology 1 class), GRADE (the letter grade the student earned in the class), and FINAL (the score the student got on the final exam). Your goal is to understand and to describe these variables using the measures of central tendency and variability that you learned earlier in class. Be sure to consider the level (scale) of measurement for each variable before you begin the rest of the lab. For each variable, you will report (1) what is that scale, (2) provide the appropriate statistics (of central tendency and variability), (3) provide the appropriate graph, (4) print the output of statistics and graph, and (5) type no more than a one paragraph summary of what the output shows.
  2. 1. What is the scale of measurement for the SCHOOL variable? Provide the appropriate statistics of central tendency and variability for the SCHOOL variable and the graph which is most appropriate for the display of those statistics.

What you submit for grading: Print the output of your Excel work. You do not need to print all of the raw data, just what you operated on and the descriptive statistical results. Using Microsoft Word, write no more than a one paragraph summary of what the output shows. 2. What is the scale of measurement for the GRADE variable? Provide the appropriate statistics of central tendency and variability for the GRADE variable and the graph which is most appropriate for the display of those statistics. What you submit for grading: Print the output of your Excel work. Using Microsoft Word, write no more than a one paragraph summary of what the output shows. 3. What is the scale of measurement for the FINAL variable? Provide the appropriate statistics of central tendency and variability for the FINAL variable and the graph which is most appropriate for the display of those statistics. What you submit for grading: Print the output of your Excel work. Using Microsoft Word, write no more than a one paragraph summary of what the output shows. 4. Follow APA style guidelines in writing your paper, especially for your paper’s format, display of tables and graphs, citations, and Works Cited page.
